MBC 2017 Korean Music Festival - Oh!K Star League 2017 Facebook Contes

The most anticipated time of the year is just around the corner for all Malaysian K-pop fans. The MBC 2017 Korean Music Festival will kick off on 31^st December 2017 and Oh!K (Astro Ch. 394) will be airing it LIVE this year!

To keep the excitement alive throughout the month of December, Oh!K will be hosting their very own Oh!K Star League 2017 Facebook contest! During this contest, fans will get the opportunity to win K-drama themed plushies (think Goblin!) every week just by nominating and voting for their favourite Oppas, Unnies and Noonas in three different categories.

Oh!K will be taking in nominations from 4 - 10 December while casting of votes will take place from 11 – 31 December in the following sequence:

ü  Week 1 (11 - 17 Dec): Oppa of the Year

ü  Week 2 (18 – 24 Dec): Most Haengbok Smile

E! Asia's The Friends in the Adriatic Sea, Feat. GFriend

E! Asia – NBCUniversal International Networks’ channel dedicated to pop culture – today announced the premiere of The Friends in the Adriatic Sea, Feat. GFriend, the latest addition to the channel’s line-up of Korean reality series offerings.  The five 60-minute episodes will be available on E! Zone from 6 December – the same day as the show airs in Korea – and premieres on the E! Asia linear channel on 16 December at 9pm.  The announcement comes on the heels of the premiere of Triple H Fun Agency, and the network’s string of K-pop series acquisitions including 2PM Wild Beat, Big Bang Made and SNL Korea.

The five-part series features South Korea’s six-member female group GFriend.  Members Sowon, Yerin, Eunha, Yuju, SinB and Umji will set off to the Adriatic Sea as plan for their European getaway throwing a celebratory party to mark  the 1000-day anniversary of their debut as a group.

In each episode of The Friends in the Adriatic Sea, Feat. GFriend a different member of the group is in-charge of planning part of the itinerary, and will be designated as a tour guide. From city tours, food adventures and exploring the vast outdoors, GFriend will give viewers an interesting perspective on their European escapade.

"E! has seen tremendous success with Asian content, and we think that The Friends in the Adriatic Sea, Feat. GFriend will be a great addition to the lineup,” said Scott Mackenzie, Vice President, Channels, Asia, NBCUniversal International Networks.  “We are thrilled to be premiering the show the same day as it airs in Korea.  GFriend has a strong fan following across Asia and we are sure that their fans, and E! viewers, will enjoy the show.”

Since the group’s debut, GFriend have won several awards including "Best New Female Artist" at the South Korean Melon Music Awards and have amassed an impressive following of more than two million followers on their social media accounts.  They also have an active and dedicated fan community, known as “Buddies.”

E! ENTERTAINMENT TELEVISION LAUNCHES KOREAN REALITY SHOW TRIPLE H FUN AGENCY ON E! ASIA FROM SATURDAY, 25 NOVEMBER

E! Asia – NBCUniversal International Network’s channel dedicated to pop culture – today announced the premiere of Korean reality series Triple H Fun Agency where all twelve episodes will be made available first on E! Zone to Astro Go subscribers in Malaysia from Saturday, 18 November and premiering on the E! Asia linear channel on (Astro Ch. 712)  Saturday, November 25 at 11:30pmwith weekly episodes.

Triple H Agency follows the newly formed K-pop group – Triple H – consisting of  Cube Entertainment's megastar artist HyunA (Wonder Girlsand 4Minute), and Hui and E'Dawn (Pentagon) in their quest to launch a new, hit album.  HyunA is building on her previous successful album launches, but will rookie band members Hui and E’Dawn be able to bring their A-game to the group?  During the 12, 30-minute episodes, the audience will experience the blood, sweat and tears that go into producing a new album and see up-close what it takes to make it a hit.

KPOP Music Wave 2017 the biggest Korean pop concert to be held in the northern region is set to turn up the heat on 24 November 2017 at Setia Spice, Penang.

Presented by Golden Warriors Film & Entertainment (“GWFE”), the concert will be the biggest gathering of the hottest Korean stars in one night. The line-up features international best-selling artistes B.A.P., Haha, Kim Jong Kook, Rain and T-ara as well as local up-and-coming talents D’Vol (dance group) and The Flaming Circle (vocal group).

Following the launch of its recent event, the KPOP Sensation 2017 featuring Jessica Jung and Kang Gary, GWFE is confident that the upcoming KPOP Music Wave 2017 is just the beginning of bigger and more exciting Korean pop (“Kpop”) events to rock the region. “Kpop is a global phenomenon and we are proud to bring the best Korean pop performers to the beautiful island of Penang,” said Mr Hendrik, the Managing Director of GWFE.

Spicing up the stage is the aptly named boy group B.A.P. (acronym for Best Absolute Perfect). The group’s six members Yongguk, Himchan, Daehyun, Youngjae, Jongup and Zelo are well known for their versatility and charismatic on-stage performances: perfectly choreographed dance moves, sleek rapping and strong vocals. In 2012, B.A.P.’s debut single Warrior sold over 10,000 copies within two days of release. B.A.P.’s first full-length studio album First Sensibility topped the Billboard World Albums Chart upon its release in 2014. B.A.P. won its second Best Korean Act award at the 2016 MTV EMAs and in March 2017 the group released its sixth Korean single album “Rose”.

As one of the headliners, Ha Dong-hoon, or better known by his stage name Haha debuted as a singer and rapper of Z-kiri in 2001. In 2010, Haha joined Running Man as co-host and received the award for Best Entertainer at the 2011 SBS Entertainment Awards. It was in the show that he formed the musical duo, Running Man Brothers with another KPOP Music Wave headliner Kim Jong Kook. In 2016, Haha’s collaboration with Skull featuring Stephen Marley titled Love Inside was ranked top ten in a Jamaican video chart upon its release.

Multi-talented and multi-award winning Kim Jong-kook debuted as a part of the duo of Turbo. He pursued his career as a solo singer after the band disbanded and skyrocketed to fame with his third album This is Me, one of the best-selling albums in South Korea in 2005. In the same year, he swept the Daesang Award from SBS, KBS and MBC. Kim is also a popular TV celebrity who has appeared in hit shows such as Family Outing and X-Man. In addition to being part of Running Man Brothers, Kim also won the SBS 2011 Best TV Star Award for his role in Running Man.

Jung Ji-hoon, popularly known as Rain, is South Korea’s most successful kpop artiste. Rain debuted as a solo singer in 2002 and gained popularity with the release of his third solo album It’s Raining which topped music charts throughout Asia. His popularity continued to soar with his fourth and fifth studio albums and in 2006 Rain was listed as one of the 100 Most Influential People Who Shape Our World. In addition to his vocal talent and popping dance moves, Rain’s fame is also attributed to his acting roles in Korean hit dramas (e.g. Full House, A Love to Kill) and movies (e,g, I’m a Cyborg, But That’s OK) and international blockbusters (e.g. Ninja Assassin). With millions of fans spanning across the globe, sold-out performances and more than 110 awards won, Rain will definitely rock the stage of KPOP Music Wave 2017.

Completing the line-up of Kpop stars is no other than the beautiful and sassy girl group T-ara. In the Kpop scene saturated with girl groups, T-ara shines out with its catchy hook-heavy dance music and an array of visual styles and concepts. The group’s single Bo Peep Bo Peep from their debut studio album Absolute First Album bagged five awards in 2009. In 2011, T-ara released the super successful single Roly Poly which was reported to be the top-grossing and highest-selling single of 2011 in South Korea. As one of best-selling girl groups of all time, T-ara’s members: Eunjung, Hyomin, Jiyeong and Qri will sizzle the night with their powerful performance!

As a prelude to the excitement, a press conference was held on 2 September 2017 at Mmall Penang to officially launch KPOP Music Wave 2017. Qri of T-ara was present to join the launch event and fans were given the opportunity to meet and greet the star at the exclusive event.

tvN Asia's One Night Food Trip - International Edition Comes to Singapore Korean Singers Eric Nam & Bernard along with Singapore Actress He Ying Ying Compete against the Production Team to Win the Golden Passport

tvN Asia’s brand-new original production, One Night Food Trip – International Edition is going to Singapore! A spin-off of the popular Korean travel programme of the same name, One Night Food Trip – International Edition added local Asian celebrities into the mix to further hype up the competition. In One Night Food Trip – International Edition, celebrity foodies (Korean and local) set off to Taiwan, Singapore, the Philippines and Malaysia for a gourmet frenzy! Different from the original Korean One Night Food Trip, the International Edition requires the stars to do more than just EAT, the celebrities are also to accomplish as many missions as they can, involving local food, culture, attractions, basically everything LOCAL! tvN Asia 24-hr Express Drama BLACK to Premiere Expressly on 15 Oct (Sun) at 21:45 only on tvN Asia in Singapore & Malaysia

tvN Asia 24-hour express drama --- BLACK --- a supernatural thriller drama starring award-winning best actor, Song Seung-heon ( 송승헌) and actress/model Go Ara (고아라), will premiere on tvN Asia in Singapore and Malaysia on 15 October (Sunday) at 21:45, and take up the Sunday & Monday drama block after the time-slip drama Live Up To Your Name (名不虚传).

Song Seung-heon portrays a character of different forms: a cold-hearted grim reaper (Black) who took over the body of a compassionate rookie detective (Han Moo-gang), he remarked, “I am playing a very complex character, it was actually a bit difficult to follow the storyline at first, but I am totally drawn to the script after reading the whole thing!” Co-starring with Song is Go Ara, who takes the role of Kang Ha-ram, a girl who has premonitions and the ability to see death. It is the first time for both lead actor and actress to take part in a series of such theme, much anticipation is expected from the audiences.

BLACK follows the story of a rookie detective who is possessed by grim reaper and a girl who can see the shadows of death. Together, they work on saving people’s lives and solving cases, but at the same time breaking the rule of heaven. Travelling between the normal and fantasy world, the romance between the two characters is also something out of the ordinary.

The fantasy thriller drama is directed by Kim Hong-sun of Voice, a successful crime series, and was written by Choi Ran of God’s Gift – 14 Days (神的礼物－14天), a popular time-travel thriller. 24-hour express drama, BLACK will premiere on tvN Asia in Singapore and Malaysia on 15 October (Sunday) at 21:45 and air every Sunday and Monday. In episode 8, both Heo Im (Kim Nam-gil) and Choi Yeong-kyung (Kim Ah-joong) travel back to Joseon era, where Heo Im is hold captive as he failed to cure the King as seen in the first episode. Heo Im then discover the key to his time travel ability falls on his acupuncture set. Heo Im subsequently escapes imprisonment through the help of Doo-chil who asks Heo to save his brother…
