Oh!K channel lands on Astro - New Korean TV channel bringing fast-tracked entertainment with same-day telecasts as Korea

Hallyu fans in Malaysia can now enjoy the very latest Korean entertainment as Oh!K, the hottest new Korean TV channel, has hit the airwaves in Malaysia on Astro Channel 394.

Providing the best in Korean TV, Oh!K brings fast-tracked entertainment with subtitle and audio options within 24 hours of their first airing in South Korea. From now until the end of February, all Astro subscribers will be able to access the channel for free, after which Oh!K will be available on Astro’s Korean Pack for RM10.  

Oh!K is powered by Korea’s leading broadcaster, MBC, which has a proven track record of top-rating, quality productions that have dominated TV over the past five decades. Current hit shows that are available on Oh!K include drama series Shine or Go Crazy, Rosy Lovers and Four Legendary Witches which are some of the highest rating series in Korea, as well as the long-running variety show, Infinite Challenge, and I am a Singer.

To mark the channel’s launch, Oh!K will run the ‘Take Me to Korea’ campaign from 23 February to 22 March in which viewers will stand a chance to win a pair of tickets to Seoul, Korea and a VIP tour to one of the Korea’s largest TV studios.

In addition, throughout the Chinese New Year break from 19 to 20 February, Oh!K will air a programming marathon of popular Korean series.

Premiering with award-winning talents and programmes

Shine or Go Crazy, which airs with English and Chinese subtitles on the same day as Korea’s telecast, is a costume drama sprinkled with elements of romance and comedy. As the charismatic male lead, Jang Hyuk had recently clinched the Top Excellence Award for his act in You Are My Destiny where he had starred as a Korean Chaebol, alongside Jang Na-ra.

Viewers can also catch up on Rosy Lovers, starring the youngest member of K-pop girl group SECRET, Han Sun Hwa. This series tells the story of two college students who fell in love despite objections from their families. The channel also offers a variety of drama series with exciting storylines including Four Legendary Witches – a story about four prison cellmates who picked up baking skills and used to get on revenge.

Apart from dramas, Oh!K also offers a wide range of hilariously over-the-top variety shows. The channel launch features MBC’s Infinite Challenge. After more than 400 episodes and 10 years, Infinite Challenge showcases a cast which still delivers endless entertainment and laughter. They will stop at nothing, even if it means sacrificing their celebrity image, to win the challenge of the week! Starring Yoo Jae-suk, Park Myung-soo and Haha.

Jackie Chan values brotherhood more than anything

Directed by the renowned Hong Kong director Daniel Lee, starring Jackie Chan who also acts as executive producer, Hollywood star John Cusack, Academy-winning actor Adrien Brody and Korean pop idol Choi Si-won, the blockbuster Dragon Blade is scheduled to be released during the 2015 Chinese New Year. Today the production team publishes a set of stills in which we see Jackie Chan lead a peacekeeping troop. Jackie Chan has mentioned more than once that in Dragon Blade, he is the commander of an ancient “peacekeeping force”. Through the set of photos revealed today, the brotherhood between Jackie Chan and his men is vividly conveyed to the viewers.

In Dragon Blade, Jackie Chan plays Huo An, the Commander of the Protectorate of the Western Regions whose job is to keep the peace between the countries in the region. However, he is not fighting on his own. In the stills unveiled today, we see the strong brotherhood between Huo An and his men. According to the production team, although the “special peacekeeping squad” consists of a small number of soldiers, each of them has his forte. Furthermore, they firmly believe in their peacekeeping operation. They are an elite squad, and even when they are in danger, they demonstrate not only bravery but solid bonding with one another. 

Amongst the officers in the special squad, the characters played by Choi Si-won and Yoo Seungjun are the most noticeable. Choi Si-won plays Yin Po, Jackie Chan’s right-hand man, a great martial arts fighter. Yin Po is a very calculating man who desires fame and fortune, and he keeps intriguing relationships with all parties involved. Cougar played by Steve Yoo Seung-jun is the vanguard of the force; despite his heroic deeds, he is a humble man. In addition, Chinese actors, including Xiu Qing and Xu Xiangdong play important roles in the special peacekeeping squad.

In the movie, Huo An played by Jackie Chan has fought countless battles in order to keep the peace in the Western Regions. He has been away from home for years, and his men have always followed him. Even when Huo An is sent into exile to the borders, they go with him without a word of complain. On the other hand Huo An treats his men as his blood brothers. When Steve Yoo talks about the “special peacekeeping squad”, he says, ‘Actually, these men are ordinary people, but the ambition they share with one another bonds them together. They’re no ordinary friends but brothers; they’ve worked so hard to achieve a selfless goal, and what inspired them in the first place is their longing for peace.’

In real life, Jackie Chan has a group of loyal brothers – the JC Stunt Team. Jackie Chan expresses that he and his men have been working so hard together for years, and they truly appreciate what they have achieved. So often they spend all day shooting, rehearsing, editing, meeting and eating. Sometimes they spend more time with one another than with their wives and family. As a result, their brotherly relationships are highly valued. They have a shared goal – to make better movies for the audiences all over the world.

It has been announced that Dragon Blade, is scheduled to open on the 2015 Chinese New Year’s Day (19^th Feb) across Asia.

Hotlink Race Start Season 2 in Malaysia Running Man Fan Meeting A Resounding Success! Inbox x

November, Malaysia – Five of South Korea’s hottest stars were in town for Malaysia’s biggest fan meeting of the year – ‘Hotlink Race Start Season 2 in Malaysia Running Man Fan Meeting’!  All thanks to the organiser, ONE HD, fans of Running Man in Malaysia had the rare opportunity to catch all their favourite stars in just one event!

The immensely successful fan meeting saw 5 resident cast members of the popular urban action variety series, namely Kim Jong Kook, HAHA (Ha Dong Hoon), Ji Suk Jin, Lee Kwang Soo and Song Ji Hyo, thrilling a massive crowd of over 2,500 fans last evening at Stadium Negara in Kuala Lumpur.

The inaugural ‘Hotlink Race Start Season 2 in Malaysia Running Man Fan Meeting’ had all the elements of an interactive musical concert – complete with stage games, song performances and video montages of memorable scenes from the series.  The seasoned entertainers delivered charming performances and tickled the audience with their quirky banter and antics.  One of the highlights of the evening was when the ‘Easy Brothers’ Lee Kwang Soo and Ji Suk Jin, surprised the fans with a parody of ‘Trouble Maker’ sparking roaring laughter and cheers.

The evening was especially significant for 23 lucky Malaysian fans, who won a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join the stars on stage for fun and games.  In the spirit of Running Man challenges, the entertaining stage activities included stage games such as sharing Pepero between Lee Kwang Soo and a lucky fan which ensued immediate hilarity to the entertained audience. The entire cast also joined an image guessing game that put fans and the cast to the test by imitating the image on screen for the last person to guess correctly.

The two-hour long fan meet extravaganza closed on a high note with 2 encore performances by all the cast members.

Over 4,000 Malaysian fans gathered for the autograph session

Earlier in the day, approximately 4,000 boisterous fans greeted the stars at the autograph session, which was held at Paradigm Mall.  Mobs of excited fans from all across Malaysia arrived at as early as 6.00am to get a good vantage point of their favourite Running Man stars.  The autograph session saw the Running Man cast signing exclusive Race Start posters for winners of sponsors’ contests and VIP ticket holders of the fan meeting.
